Bananafishbones – Easy Day feat. Franka Potente

“It’s like dancing in the sun
Having trouble having fun
Having anything you wish to come
then it finally smiles your way

It’s time to have an easy day”

Best Song 2008 (in German language)- Ich + Ich: Stark

If I could choose the Best Song 2008 (in German language), this would be the one:
Ich + Ich: Stark.
It was the lyrics that caught my attention first but the tune is pretty nice, too.
I searched for the translation on the web as I am not really good at translating into English and above all I am too lazy….  The version I copied from manuela roigk and pasted below is as close as it gets.

Please check out the band’s website, their myspace page,  and buy the EP on iTunes or amazon.com if you like it. I am going to remove the mp3 link in 3 days.

 Ich + Ich: Stark.

[edit: mp3 link removed, listen to the track on last.fm]

Strong

I’ve been on the run for weeks
and I drink too much beer and wine
my flat is abandoned
I shatter my mirror in small pieces
I’m not the one I’d like to be
and I don’t want to be who I am
my life is a chaos
look at it more carefully

I’m extremely jealous and unfair with women
and when things get serious I just bugger off
I’m asking you now, does this make any sense?
my life is a chaos
look at it more carefully

And you think I’m strong and I know the way
you just want to imagine I know how things work
you think I’ve got everything under control
and can control what happens
but I just stand up here and sing my song

I’m always searching
and I don’t know anymore what I’m searching for
I spend entire nights in bars, I’m always the one
who laughs loudest
noone ever notices how confused I really am
it’s all a cover-up, look more carefully

And you think I’m strong and I know the way
you just want to imagine I know how things work
you think I’ve got everything under control
and can control what happens
but I just stand up here and sing my song
I just stand up here and sing my song

Come and stand with me in the sunlight
or walk with me for a bit
I’ll show you my reality for an instant
I wonder, just like you do, what’s the point of all this?
my life is a chaos
look at it more carefully

And you think I’m strong and I know the way
you just want to imagine I know how things work
you think I’ve got everything under control
and can control what happens
but I just stand up here and sing my song
I just stand up here and sing my song

Feist – Lo, How A Rose E’re Blooming (German Christmas Carol – 16th century)

Es ist ein Ros’ enstprungen – Lo, How a Rose E’re Blooming

I learnt the German traditional song “Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen” when I sang in the church choir long time ago. Michael Prätorius composed it in the late 16th century. It is unknown who wrote the lyrics.

I love Christmas Carols but I never loved this one…until yesterday, when I first listened to Leslie Feist’s version:

Her version’s just brilliant, very simple, clear, classy, and beautiful. The style slightly reminds me of “The Park”.
